Peter Truran
My work begins with drawing and is driven by a love of the moments when an image can emerge on the paper without any apparent conscious thought – a Zen-like moment when there seems to be no distinction between the artist and the object of his creation.My aim as a painter is to attempt to achieve in a painting similar qualities to those which are found in drawing – a feeling that the form emerges as a barely conscious dialogue between the marks on the surface and the artist. In order to achieve this , I use a variety of media applied with brushes, rags and fingers to allow a wide range of marks and gestures.
The study of the human figure is one of the principal themes which has run consistently through my work.
Peter Truran was born in Cornwall and is currently pursuing a course of advanced study in Minneapolis, Minnesota
